Week 2 Topic: Being a Nursing Assistant (NA)- The Role and Responsibilities


Our class size is growing slowly but there are many empty seats. Tell friends that our class is still open to new students. Here is a quick view of the week: 

Monday:



  • Small Talk Practice (we will do conversation practice) 
  • New spelling words. New vocabulary words from pages 6 & 7 in your textbook.  Be sure to study the words on the the Quizlet website
  • New nursing skill: Blood Flow and Putting on TED Hose/Stockings.   "TED" means Thrombo-Embolic Deterrent.  Review Manuel's powerpoint presentation on this website.  Manuel will be practicing and testing your nursing skills during class.  
  • Grammar: VERBS- Simple Present/Present Continuous Negative & Question formation      want to...   need to...

Tuesday: Textbook pages 6-7 and review new vocabulary words.  There are 30 bullets    that describe the role and responsibilities of NAs.  Read them very carefully! Complete handout. Don't forget to study Quizlet.  

TED Hose Study Slides Handout & comprehension exercise.  (complete for H.W.) 

Wednesday: 

Dictation Practice 
Reading Strategies. How to read for main ideas and details in your book readings.   
What is a module?  How many are there?  Read the titles, which one is the most interesting to you?  
After break, we will go to the Computer Lab! You will have an opportunity to do grammar review using ESL software loaded on the computers there!  

Don't forget to organize your binder! The test will be open binder.  Being organized will help you find the answers more quickly.  
 Here's what you need to know for the test: 
1) What do these abbreviations stand for? 
     PCA-
     NA-  
    TED-
    DVT-
    PE- 
2) Grammar exercises: When to use the Simple Present vs. Present Continuous &      WH- questions in the Simple Present.  
Know the question structure: Wh-question + Aux + Subject + Main Verb

4) Parts of Body & Hand  (diagrams) 

5) Vocabulary Words:  Handouts - Universal Precautions & Roles of a Nursing Assistant

Thursday: Quick review for the spelling, vocabulary and grammar test.
