Preventing & Controlling Disease
This week we will be learning about: Medical Asepsis/Hand washing. See Quizlet website for spelling and vocabulary practice.
- Medical asespsis (clean technique) are a set of practices that reduces or controls the number, growth and spread of pathogenic microorganisms (disease producing bacteria, viruses...).
- The practices include: hand washing, bathing, cleaning, using disinfectants (clorox bleach) and antiseptic (99.99% hand sanitizers) lotions or liquids, and PPE.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is gloving, gowning, wearing a mask, hair & shoe covers, eye protection...and other types of bodily protective gear. See photo below!
- Ebola is an example of a pathogenic microorganism, specifically a virus, that is on the move! Using medical asepsis practices is very important to stop its spread! Be educated and well trained!
